as a student of photography and having a lifelong passion for taking photographs since a young child, ohhlouise is back from her almost ten year hiatus. a series of events led her to rethink the photograph as a vehicle of storing memories.
ohhlouise started in her undergrad exploring topics of family, the male gaze and female and male roles. She started with black and white and color 35mm film and then moved to working with vintage family negatives, presenting juxtaposing images as they were taken from the film strip, forming a story from the eyes of a man behind the lens, her late grandfather. from there her interest for mural printing started, creating 5x4 feet black and white prints from 4x5 film negatives, using subject matter of men's football in the 1950s and glass negatives from the late 1880s of store fronts.
ohhlouise currently works digitally, using the camera as her diary, helping to process life and see the world in a new light, with hope and joy in the small things. her lens finds the beautiful in the "unbeautiful"- and makes the details of life come to life. she is currently working on several mixed media projects in between taking photography sessions in the farmington valley. it is a new season and a new chapter. let’s begin.
